The Australian Opera has the largest full time Wardrobe Departments in Australia and is considered to be one of the three largest full time repertory companies in the world. As Wardrobe Wig Director I have been responsible for the management of both the manufacturing and stage operations of the Wardrobe and Wigs/Make-up departments Some of my responsibilities have included: liaising directly with designers and directors to determine and create production requirements; the realisation of 5 New and 14 revived productions per year; to ensure the cut and fit of garments are in line with the designers specifications, the company standard and within time and budget allocations; redesigning of revival costumes to compliment different figure types; co-ordination of Wardrobe requirements for touring including the preparation of carnets for overseas transportation; the co-ordination and personnel management of 45 full time staff complimented by addition casual and contract staff as required (such as dressers, cutters, makers, buyers, make-up artists and hairdressers); the preparations of estimates/costings and provision of professional advice to achieve budget; the monitoring and reporting of expenditure against accepted estimates and the day to day running of departmental activities. |
